Wax on...Pre-wax suggestions:
1. Hair should be at least 1/4" in length, and preferably longer for coarser hair. The longer the better. Tweezing hurts!
2. Exfoliate always, but especially before getting waxed. The night before your appointment, use a scrub or loofah to remove dead skin cells. Be sure to go against the hair growth.
3. Manage pain. Taking an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30-45 minutes before waxing may help. Also, be advised that pain sensitivity can increase the week of your period.
4. When taking certain medications, the skin cannot be waxed. If you take any prescription medications, use Retin-A, or use acne topicals consult your dermatologist or physician before scheduling.
Wax off...Post-wax suggestions:
1. Irritation is normal and varies depending on skin type. Hydro-cortisone can be purchased over-the-counter and used the day of the wax to reduce visible irritation.
2. Tanning within 48 hours of waxing is not recommended.
3. Avoid wearing tight underwear and clothing for several days.
4. Ingrown hairs may occur with hair removal. Maintenance between appointments can reduce the occurrence of ingrown hairs. Physical exfoliation prevents the build up of dead skin cells allowing new hair to more effectively reach the surface of the skin. Chemical exfoliation is also recommended. PFB VANISH is a great product for treating and preventing ingrown hairs. It also greatly reduces irritation when used before and/or after a wax. We offer this product at Bombshell Beauty for you convenience. If an ingrown hair becomes swollen and sore it is recommended to see a dermatologist to prevent infection.
5. A powder containing corn starch may be used to prevent chafing.
